  4. Hey i’m thinking abt applying 4 this summer. just have a few questions:
    1) how can i get a scholarship?
    2) who has to write the letter of recommendation?
    3) can a girl from LA join the night program?
    Thanks!

    • 1. Scholarships are unfortunately extremely limited and given on a case-by-case basis.
      2. The letter of recommendation should come from someone who knows your middos, personality and habits, and preferably also your talents and interests. We’ve gotten recommendation letters from school teachers and play directors, family friends, and dance/vocal coaches.
      3. Yes! Just specify on your dorm.

  5. At the Jerusalem screening of “The Heart That Sings” this past Chanuka, Robin Garbose mentioned that the summer camp this coming summer was to take place in Israel. Is that going to happen? Please let me know. If not this summer is there a possibility of it next summer? I live in Israel and would really like to go.
    Thanks,
    Chaya

    • Robin Garbose says:

      Hi Chaya,
Israel ended up not making sense for the program this summer. We also were given a wonderful opportunity to take over the perfect campus for our program here in Calabasas, CA. There are 3 girls attending who live in Israel. If this summer doesn’t work out, perhaps you will be able to come next summer, BE”H. Please stay in touch with us. Thank you for your interest in Kol Neshama!
      Best,
      Robin Garbose

      • I am moving to Israel but this sounds so perfect for me! Please please please do something in Israel!

  6. Esther L. says:

Hello Mrs Garbose, how are you?
I’m Esther, Malka’s mother, we live in Israel and I wanted to write you to say that we loved your work!!! My daughter has a friend in class that moved from NY to here and brought us your dvd, “a light for the Greytowers” and we couldn’t stop watching it!!! Ijust didn’t know that it was screened here?! wow, we missed it!!!
last summer my daughter went to a musical camp here and was the main singer and the main caracter… she plays guitar, mandolin, flute, organ and dances too!! kn”hore!! she’s 13 and we are about to record a disc… me and her love singing… 3 years a go a made an “English” production here for girls and we sang together, was really beautiful, Malka also speaks hebrew, portuguese bc me and my husband are from Brazil and English, since she was a baby I tought her English too, bc I lived in Ny for a few years and I also teach english for kids so, anyway, I would love to send her to your camp!! that’s our dream!!! do you have plans to make a camp here in Israel? it would be just perfect for her!! but if not, please write me and tell me about the facilities of payment to joyn your camp in LA!! we need to buy her a ticket and she needs to stay over night, I can send you pics of Malka in a private email if you want too, she is a tzinius, smart, frum, nice and beautiful chabadnikit girl B”H!!! only naches!!!
her teacher is an american so she can write you a scholarship letter…
    be well, good news!!
    Esther L.

  7. Question. Not comment. Thank you for providing an outlet for creative girls and quality entertainment for all. Can girls who only attend the second session be eligible for larger roles, or only those who attend both sessions? Have you done the overnight combined with day only campers before? How does that work out? Do the day campers really get to bond with the overnighters? Debbie

    • Thanks for your interest and kind words!

We’re filming a separate episode of the Camp Bnos Yisrael series during each half of the summer, so while girls who are going for both sessions can appear in both videos playing the same character, that won’t affect the size of your role within that session’s episode, you know what I mean?

Re: the day/overnight programs, Kol Neshama as a program has really evolved since it started back in 2000. Back then, the camp had about 30 girls altogether, and maybe only 4-8 of them were ever from out of town. We had no dorm, and those girls would board with families in Los Angeles for 6 weeks — either their own relatives, or with day camp families. After “A Light for Greytowers” became an international hit, we started getting inquiries from all over the world, and the balance of day-to-overnight campers started shifting until the dormers outnumbered the day campers, and we started having actual dorms and dorm counselors for the program. This year is our first year with an actual (and GORGEOUS!) campus, with grounds and bunks and a dining room, and the day campers make up only 25% or so now — partially because lots of Los Angeles girls want the sleepaway camp experience and are living in the dorm this year!
The intense classes and collaborative experience of putting on a performance or shooting a movie really brings everyone together, and in my experience, the day campers don’t feel left out at all. We have one “Out Shabbos” per session where the overnight campers can leave the campus for the weekend, and while some go to their own relatives in Los Angeles, a large number are invited to the homes of their local Kol Neshama friends — it’s really nice.
